Why West Ham fans are being told to be careful what they wish for as David Moyes point made
West Ham United are flying in the Championship table after a statement win over Swansea City.
Divine Mukasa scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 victory at the Swansea.com Stadium last time out.
That saw the Hammers move within one point of the Championship leaders with 11 games of the season played.
It backed up a 6-0 battering of Lincoln City in the game prior, albeit the hosts played a large portion of the game with nine men.
Moreover, no one has scored more than the 30 goals Nuno Espirito Santo's men have racked up, with Middlesbrough the next closest on 22.
Still, though, Nuno has some detractors among the supporters, and one prominent EFL pundit has sounded a warning to the Hammers' fanbase.
Aaron McLean tells West Ham fans to remember what happened after David Moyes
West Ham are in a strong position as they attempt to return to the Premier League at the first attempt.
The Irons have not been beaten in the league since losing at home to Charlton Athletic on 22 August.
However, some fans have questioned certain performances and pondered whether Nuno - who has a Championship promotion on his CV with Wolverhampton Wanderers - can get West Ham over the line.
Former Peterborough United and Ipswich Town striker Aaron McLean, a prominent EFL pundit for Sky Sports, sounded a warning to West Ham fans, though.
He raised the point that many fans were unhappy with David Moyes, who led the Hammers to Conference League glory in 2023, prior to his exit in 2024.
Speaking on the Insidethe72pod, McLean said: "I think you stick with what you've got.
"They're one point off the top, I think they've had a good start to the season. I think West Ham fans need to just be careful what they wish for.
"You look at David Moyes, a lot of West Ham fans wanted David Moyes out, but the David Moyes was out of the door, they took a nosedive.
"I think you have to be careful what you wish for. Nuno has got experience in the Championship, he's taken Wolves from the Championship to the Premier League.
"At the moment, they're fine, I don't think they need to be looking any further than what's in front of them.
"Naturally, fans are always going to have an opinion about team selection and style of play.
"I always hear this 'West Ham way', but I've never seen it before. I've never seen what the West Ham way is, but that quote is always thrown around.
"Once they get to the top of the division, I don't expect anyone else to overtake them. For me, Nuno is the right man."
Fans are entitled to their opinion
Look, fans pay their money and they are entitled to see things however they like.
The vast majority support Nuno, recognise that West Ham are in a great position, and that there is another gear still to reach.
For some, there are legitimate questions over some of the performances the team has put in during some games, and that's absolutely fine too.
Not everything has to binary, not everything has to be about absolutism, the truth usually lies somewhere in the middle.
So, supporters can feel however they like, and all supporters just want the team to do well more than anything.
