Youssouf Fofana Premier League transfer stance detailed as West Ham United make contact

AS Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana is understood to be “enthusiastic” over a Premier League move amid West Ham links, claim Six Foot Two.

The reliable Hammers news source wrote on their website on Thursday (3 August) that the club already spoke to people close to the France international.

The 24-year-old’s keenness on playing in England’s top flight may give West Ham the edge as there are other clubs keen on signing him as well.

Good move?

The Hammers cannot bring in just one new midfielder to combat the loss of Declan Rice this summer as the Englishman offered so much.

He was a press-resistant ball carrier, who had the potential to dictate tempo and also advance the balls into attacking areas, making him one of the most complete midfielders under the age of 25.

Fofana certainly is not as good but he’s got some aspects of Rice’s game and if the club are smart enough to bring in someone who can fulfil the other roles, then this deal could work for the Hammers.

It remains to be seen if David Moyes sanctions this move as he’s been favouring going for the tried and tested options.

His reluctance can be understood as players like Gianluca Scamacca and Alex Kral have joined in recent windows and failed to live up to the billing.

If players have cut it in the Premier League previously then there’s every reason to think they can be good signings for the Hammers.

In other West Ham news, the club have now opened advanced talks with a Premier League player who appears to be open on leaving his side this summer.
