Xabi Alonso now contender for West Ham United job as David Moyes exit update drops
Xabi Alonso has come into the reckoning as a contender for the West Ham manager role, according to a report from The Sun.
The former Liverpool midfield maestro is said to be “a real possibility” to replace David Moyes if he leaves in the summer.
However, the Scotsman remains defiant and is set to fight for his job after two excellent results for his side in the last week.

Ongoing uncertainty around the manager’s position at the London Stadium has led to several names being mentioned as potential successors to the former Manchester United and Everton gaffer.
“Xabi Alonso is emerging as a strong candidate to be the next West Ham manager, if David Moyes leaves,” stated the report.
“Current Hammers boss Moyes is adamant he is already planning for next season and has no intention of going this summer.
“Alonso, 41, is developing the reputation of a young progressive coach in the mold of childhood friend Mikel Arteta, now the Arsenal manager, and Burnley boss Vincent Kompany.
“It is understood that senior figures at West Ham are well aware of the buzz surrounding Alonso and consider him a real possibility to replace Moyes, despite his relative lack of experience.”

Fighting chance
Under Moyes’ direction, the Hammers have made big strides in the last week, with the comeback performance against Arsenal setting the tone for what followed.
Seeing off Gent in the Europa Conference League means the Irons are primed for a second successive continental semi-final, not a bad feat at all whilst the fans will be pleased to look at the league table today to see a six-point lead over the drop zone, for West Ham in 13th place.
All of a sudden, a positive base has been established to support what could still be a very successful end to the campaign which would give Moyes an excellent case to remain at the club.
As for Alonso, he is gaining credibility for his work in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen in what has been a steady first season.
His excellent credentials as a player, including a significant five-year spell at Anfield combine well with his current role to make him a realistic option, should the club decide to go in a different direction.
