Wolves hold Craig Dawson talks amid West Ham United exit speculation

Wolves have held talks with West Ham United defender Craig Dawson as Julen Lopetegui looks to add the 32-year-old to his squad, according to 90min.

TalkSPORT reporter Alex Crook has revealed (via Twitter, 11 January) that Wolves are “actively pursuing” a move for the West Ham defender.

90min suggest (12 January) the Black Country side have also agreed a £9.5million deal for Nice midfielder Mario Lemina as well as looking to sign Dawson.

West Ham

Likely

This feels like a move which is potentially on the cards with Dawson eager to move back closer to his home up North. The 32-year-old has been a superb servant for the Hammers, but considering David Moyes’ current options at centre half, he is likely to see reduced minutes in the second half of the season.

Dawson has been wanting to leave the London Stadium for a while and it does feel like the time is right for him to finally seal his departure. The only issue would be selling to a direct relegation rival and that’s something the board must consider.

West Ham

West Ham are currently involved in a relegation dogfight and selling to Wolves could be a foolish move. A move at the end of the season would make much more sense for the board when there’s more clarity over which division both sides will be playing in next season.

Saturday’s clash against Lopetegui’s side is looking like a season-defining fixture for both sides. A win for either team could be massive in the fight to beat relegation.
