Winston Reid was hoping to seal loan move from West Ham this summer

West Ham centre-back Winston Reid was hoping to seal a loan move away from the club this summer, but it proved to no avail, according to The Athletic.

The 33-year-old New Zealand international is not in the plans of manager David Moyes for the season, and failure to get another temporary exit away from the London Stadium comes as a blow.

Reid has two more years left on his current deal with the Hammers, and it remains to be seen what the future now holds for him.

Blow

Moyes called the long-serving West Ham player “a great ambassador for the club” back in January, but made it clear that there were no openings in that department as four centre-halves were available [Claret and Hugh].

While Fabian Balbuena has since been released, the Irons have since brought in Kurt Zouma, and the Frenchman joins Angelo Ogbonna, Craig Dawson and Issa Diop as options at the back.

Despite playing for his country at the summer Olympics, Reid has not been able to convince Moyes, and an exit in the summer would have made sense.

Reid has not played for the Irons since March 2018, with the knee injury he sustained against Swansea City ruling him out of action for the entirety of 2018-19.

He featured in 11 Championship games and the promotion play-off final, helping the Bees secure Premier League promotion, but they were not keen on taking him permanently.
