WHZ View: West Ham should consider Todd Cantwell move

West Ham should make a formal move to sign Norwich midfielder Todd Cantwell in the January transfer window.

According to reports from Sky Sports, Newcastle United and another unnamed Premier League club have made an approach for the 23-year-old creative midfielder.

The Canaries are looking for a fee of around £15m-£20m for Cantwell, and they could be willing to sell him in January as well.

West Ham

West Ham have been keeping tabs on the Norwich midfielder for a while, with Claret and Hugh reporting back in November that the Hammers could make a move for him in January.

The Englishman’s Norwich contract expires next year, but the Canaries have an option to extend it for another year.

Cantwell has impressed at Carrow Road in recent seasons. In 2019/20, he was arguably one of their best performers, drawing attention from the likes of Jurgen Klopp as well [90mins].

His current season hasn’t gone according to plans. He has made only eight appearances this season, with two of them coming under Dean Smith.

West Ham

Cantwell is a quality midfielder whose best years are ahead of him and probably he needs a change of scenery to recapture his best form.

West Ham, meanwhile, have pressing issues elsewhere. They need to sign a central defender and a back-up striker, but they shouldn’t let the opportunity to sign Cantwell pass by without giving a fight.

In other West Ham news, an “extraordinary” offer could see the Irons bag this centre-back in January.
