WHZ View: Athletic journo makes claim on West Ham-linked defender, Hammers fans will be ecstatic

Liverpool’s decision to sell Nat Phillips will have come as great news for West Ham as their quest to sign Nikola Milenkovic has reportedly ended.

The Hammers appeared hell-bent on bringing the Serbian to the London Stadium this summer, but 90min’s Toby Cudworth recently reported that they have cooled their interest in the 23-year-old.

There has been an interest in the Liverpool defender [The Athletic], and after Milenkovic, the club could turn their attention to the 24-year-old.

After Liverpool’s game against Newcastle, fans asked The Athletic’s James Pearce about the Phillips situation.

In the Q&A section, he responded, “Still no suitable offers on the table. I’m still expecting him to leave before the window shuts.”

This should be phenomenal news for us as we’ll be signing an established Premier League centre-back who could help take us to the next level.

Per Pearce, they value him at £15million which places him perfectly into our transfer budget for this summer.

He’s also an English defender and would add to our homegrown quota – something that will be important not just in the Premier League but also in the Europa League.

We’ve seen our defence being all over the place in the past and even against Newcastle there were instances where it seemed like that would be the reason why we would end up losing on the opening day, but our attack bailed us out.

Phillips would sort out all these issues and would walk straight into our playing eleven.

We’re hoping that the board turn their attention on the Liverpool defender and bring him to East London.
