West Ham youngster details ‘massive decision’ as Championship restart nears
West Ham United youngster Josh Cullen has admitted there was never a “massive decision” to make after extending his loan spell at Charlton this season.
The Republic of Ireland international did share that as soon as it was confirmed that the Championship season would finish, he knew he would remain at the Valley.
Cullen suffered a serious injury midway through this campaign that put his loan switch in jeopardy, but he is back to full fitness and ready to make an impact.
Cullen spoke about the transition recently, claiming that he was always going to remain with Charlton in their battle for survival.
“It’s strange, there was never a massive decision to make,” he told Charlton’s official website.
“I knew that as long as the season did get finished, I’d be finishing it with Charlton. It’s been a long journey since my loan last season.
“We weren’t fancied for promotion by many and we did it. Now it’s my job to do the best I can to help us stay in the league.”
It is uncertain whether or not Cullen has a future at the London Stadium. If the Hammers were somehow relegated from the Premier League, the Irish midfielder would slot straight in.
With Tomas Soucek, Mark Noble and Declan Rice all in midfield at the London Stadium, the signs aren’t looking good.
Claret and Hugh have reported that Carlos Sanchez is set to leave the Hammers once his contract runs out at the end of June and that could be the slot that Cullen needed to make his mark.
