West Ham would be open to selling Diop if Moyes lands Caleta-Car

West Ham boss David Moyes is set to make a late move for £15million Marseille defender Duje Caleta Car, according to Daily Mirror.

Should he succeed in a bid to bring the Croatian international, 25, to the London Stadium, Issa Drop could be allowed to join Newcastle United.

The Hammers are keen to fight off interest from Wolverhampton Wanderers to land the 6ft 4in Caleta-Car, but they have had their loan offer with a permanent option to buy rejected this month.

While the Magpies are yet to make a firm bid for Diop, 25, they could find West Ham willing to business for him at a realistic price that allows them to reinvest in Caleta-Car.

Smart?

Newcastle have cash to splash due to their billionaire owners, but they have been priced out of moves for Lille’s Sven Botman and Sevilla’s Diego Carlos.

It is why they could resort to going in with a bid for Diop, and should they bring a reasonable fee to the table, the Irons could be very much keen to sell the Frenchman.

He is clearly struggling to impress Moyes, who has always been linked with selling him every window, and the time could finally be here.

Caleta-Car is clearly an upgrade on Diop on so many levels, and West Ham know they need to invest in their defence if they want to challenge for the top-four this term.

Diop cost them £25million in 2018, and while his stocks have gone down, he could end up fetching around half of that or even more.

Caleta-Car’s authority in the air, confidence on the ball and defensive discipline are qualities that would have definitely attracted the Hammers, and landing him will boost their chances of playing Champions League football next season.
