West Ham won’t be drawn into a bidding war with Newcastle for Lingard

West Ham have no intention of getting drawn into a protracted bidding war with Newcastle for Jesse Lingard, according to Daily Star.

While the Hammers remain keen on the Manchester United attacking midfielder, the St. James’ Park outfit are ready to stump up more cash and hand over in excess of £3million to sign him before the end of the January transfer window.

West Ham could also see their form work against them as they are in direct competition with the Red Devils for the top-four, and the Old Trafford outfit know they will be strengthening them by allowing Lingard to move to the London Stadium.

Blow?

Newcastle are fighting for their lives and have cash to spare, so Man Utd could be very open to doing business with them instead.

Getting something for Lingard right now as opposed to letting him leave for nothing in the summer makes a lot of sense for the club, and it is why the Magpies could pip West Ham to his signature.

Nevertheless, Lingard has the final say and could opt to remain at Old Trafford if he is not allowed to join the Hammers.

He will not be short of suitors as a free agent in the summer and also stands to pick up a huge signing-on fee.

David Moyes could do with such a player right now, though, but he needs to be ready to table a juicy bid that Man Utd cannot reject.

It is a tricky situation for the Irons, but losing the England international to the moneybags will be seen as a huge blow.

Nevertheless, nothing can be ruled out, and for a side that loves doing business towards the end of the window, a last-gasp move could be on the cards for Lingard.
