West Ham United Women's expert wants fast start v Leicester City

We’re delighted to welcome Michelle Irons as our exclusive West Ham Women expert. Each week she’ll be giving her views on the biggest talking points at Victoria Road…

West Ham Women’s expert Michelle Irons wants the Hammers to start fast in the first half of their WSL clash against Leicester City on Sunday.

Paul Konchesky’s side are heading into the fixture off of a damaging 5-4 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion and currently sit in eighth place.

Irons has highlighted how the Hammers’ have utilised a quick start to their advantage at times so far in the 2022/23 season.

“Leicester have been on a tough journey since the start of the season having played 7 games with 0 points and most recently have parted ways with their manager,” Irons exclusively told West Ham Zone.

“They’re firmly rooted at the bottom of the WSL table they come to London with a point to prove or at least try and earn one.

“The club will be looking to advertise this game to season ticket holders during the domestic break for the World Cup.

“As a fan, it would be nice for some extra fans to get behind the Women’s team. I’m looking for West Ham to get back to winning ways in this fixture and take advantage of Leicester’s poor form and lack of any positive results.

“I’d also like us to start quickly again as this has been a real impact tactic for us in games. We come out of the blocks and can really hurt teams and shock them. I also think the short break for some of the squad would have been a positive.”

A win against the Foxes could take the Hammers as high as fifth position in the league standings after a mixed start to the season.

Konchesky’s side have been unlucky in recent weeks with a number of dubious decisions falling the way of the opposition.
