West Ham Women's expert shares 'woeful' verdict after WSL form

We’re delighted to welcome Michelle Irons as our exclusive West Ham Women expert. Each week she’ll be giving her views on the biggest talking points at Victoria Road…

West Ham Women’s expert Michelle Irons has questioned Paul Konchesky’s position at the club after the Hammers suffered another WSL defeat, this time to Brighton.

The Hammers have plummeted down the table after a poor run of form under in the second half of the season.

Irons believes any other team would’ve fired their manager with the relegation zone now firmly in view for Konchesky’s side.

“I can see the determination in our play there’s no questioning the commitment. Maybe we just need that little bit of luck,Irons exclusively told West Ham Zone.

“However, we are desperate for a win in the league. We are not safe from relegation and I don’t think the team realises how close we actually are.

“I see a team low in confidence, a team low in morale, and a team low in any form of purpose. We have struggled to find any sort of form. It is woeful. Any other team in this league would have fired their manager.

“We have gone from a blossoming flower to a wilted one. We don’t do the basics. We don’t link play and pass with any accuracy.

“We make mistakes which other teams latch onto and don’t snuff out dangers. We look scared of teams and we already look beat when the whistle blows.

“We haven’t beaten Brighton in five games and did not look like taking anything away from this game.

“As it stands we are six points off relegation with a game in hand over bottom side Reading.

“Promoted side Liverpool are five points ahead of us and appear to be safe. Something is really odd with this team we have gone from pushing on and dreaming of achieving something special to relegation contenders.”
