West Ham winger Said Benrahma’s howler v Anderlecht ‘a bad, bad miss’ – Jonathan Pearce

Commentator Jonathan Pearce has termed West Ham United winger Said Benrahma’s howler against Anderlecht a “bad, bad miss” this evening.

The Algeria international failed to capitalise on the opportunity of scoring the opener for the Hammers in the UEFA Conference League fixture on Thursday, 06 October after an outstanding run from Jarrod Bowen in the 41st minute.

Commentating on the match on the world feed, Pearce termed the incident as a bad miss by Benrahma who failed to hit the target and skied it over the bar.

“Oh my God, that was a bad, bad miss,” said the 62-year-old at 18:26 on the world feed telecasted by beIN Sports in the MENA region.

Important win

West Ham entered the fixture with high confidence as they were unbeaten in the Conference League and are coming off the back of a much-needed win on the domestic front against Wolves at the weekend.

In the fixture against Anderlecht, the Hammers look like a better side with far more opportunities and in all fairness, they should’ve been at least a goal up in the first half.

However, with Benrahma missing an absolute sitter following an outstanding run from Bowen, it took the Irons 79 minutes to finally take a lead in the match, courtesy of a sublime finish from Gianluca Scamacca.

The victory was an important one as it kept the Hammers’ winning run going in the competition and they are now sitting pretty at the top of Group B with nine points from three matches and a win in either of the next three matches will be enough for them to secure their place in the next round.
