West Ham will not sign Alassane Plea this summer

West Ham will not be signing Borussia Monchengladbach attacker Alassane Plea this summer, according to ExWHUemployee.

The Hammers were offered the chance to sign the 28-year-old for £15million this summer, but turned down the opportunity to bring him to the London Stadium.

Despite previously being on the club’s radar, the France international is not an option the Hammers are looking to explore, and are eyeing alternatives.

On his Patreon page, the reliable West Ham insider wrote, “We can confirm that West Ham have held an interest in Alassane Plea in previous windows and that he has been watched recently and offered to us this window.

“Agents knew of our previous interest and offered him to us again for a fee thought to be around £15million this window but at the moment he is a previous target that we do not wish to explore and other options are being looked at instead.”

Good news

We cannot expect someone whose performances tailed off last season to come and hit the ground running in the most competitive league in the world.

The 28-year-old may have been a talent worth keeping an eye out for a few years ago, especially when Thierry Henry waxed his lyrical in 2019.

In an interview with Goal, the former Arsenal and Barcelona forward said of his compatriot, “Plea is also doing well for Monchengladbach.”

That was the campaign he registered 10 goals and as many assists in the Bundesliga alone, but last season he bagged only six in 29 appearances with a solitary assist to his name.

West Ham

At 28, there’s very little to suggest that he’ll be an improvement on Michail Antonio, who’s started the season in fine form.

We need a striker who’s close to his prime and can help take the club and his game to the next level at the London Stadium.
