West Ham want to sign Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix
West Ham United really want to sign a central defender in the summer and Maxence Lacroix is the latest name linked, according to Jeunes Footeux.
The 22-year-old currently plays for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga but a poor finish of 12th for the Wolves means the French Under-20 international might want a move away from the club.
David Moyes is one of the managers most keen on signing the Frenchman in the summer with both Aston Villa and Newcastle also rumoured to be in the race for his signature.
It might have to be a literal race too because Lacroix was one of the fastest players in the entire Bundesliga last season, clocking a top speed of 22.2 miles per hour only behind Jeremiah St Juste, Erling Haaland and Alphonso Davies [Bundesliga.com].
Jeunes Footeux says that Wolfsburg won’t be standing in his way if an “interesting” offer comes in but what that would be in pounds sterling is one of the mysteries of the deal.
With Angelo Ogbonna’s ongoing injury problems and Issa Diop looking likely to head for the exit door, Moyes could really do with another brick wall at the back and Lacroix might just be the man he’s looking for.
When you look at the potential partnerships in defence, as Moyes will be before making a proper approach, you could easily see the 22-year-old alongside either of the Hammers’ current first-choice defenders.
His explosive speed means he would likely be a sweeper behind either Craig Dawson or Kurt Zouma but he could also be the enforcer who meets an attacker head-on because he can recover quicker than anyone else.
He is a dream to play alongside because his fellow centre-half will know that they can take an extra risk at times as he will be there to mop any danger up should it arise.
It doesn’t sound like it will be a transfer that breaks the bank either so the club’s owners have no reason not to back Moyes on this one and make him a West Ham player next season.
