West Ham want to sign Palmeiras midfielder Danilo in January

West Ham have reportedly joined Arsenal in the race to sign Palmeiras midfielder Danilo in the January transfer window.

According to Brazilian media outlet Esportes, the 20-year-old has a release clause of £86million and the club are not keen on letting him leave this month.

The only way Danilo moves to another club is if he decides to inform the board and hands in a transfer request.

Worth signing?

The Hammers do not really need a midfielder this window and if the Brazilian club are unwilling to budge from that asking rate, then it makes little sense to pursue Danilo.

Despite him being billed as someone with “world class” potential, it’s not a player the club need right now.

It’s also understood that Arsenal have taken the first step towards securing his signing as they’re looking for someone to replace Thomas Partey who’s out on AFCON duty.

West Ham need to sign centre-backs, a left-back and a striker as their top three targets.

Signing a midfielder, which is not an area they’re weak in, would make very little sense.

The club aren’t the richest, despite Daniel Kretinsky’s investment so they cannot afford to throw around money like that.

Hopefully, this is just a random link and the club intensify their pursuits for defenders and attackers as soon as possible.
