West Ham want to sign Monaco striker Wissam Ben Yedder this summer

West Ham are reportedly eyeing a summer move for Monaco striker Wissam Ben Yedder this summer.

According to the Daily Star on July 6, Wolves are also keen on signing the 31-year-old as they face similar issues in the final third as the Hammers.

The Frenchman bagged 25 Ligue 1 goals in the 2021/22 season which put him second in the Golden Boot standings behind Kylian Mbappe’s 28-goal haul.

Tad old?

In terms of raw numbers, a move for the Frenchman makes a lot of sense as he’ll have no problems in finding the back of the net.

The Hammers struggled last season because they lacked an out-and-out number nine who could prove to be a constant goal threat.

Michail Antonio did his bit, but he’s not a natural striker and had patches where he went missing – highlighting the importance of a specialist in that position.

We do not doubt that Ben Yedder could be a decent option in the final third but his age makes this move a dicey one.

If he stays fit, and there are no guarantees of it, given his age, he will be the first-choice option for two more seasons at the very best.

Instead of that, West Ham must look to sign Armando Broja from Chelsea as a move for the Albanian looks very much on the cards.
