West Ham want to sign defender Jeremiah St Juste

West Ham United have added Mainz defender Jeremiah St Juste to their summer transfer window list, according to Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk.

The 25-year-old has also attracted interest from Leicester City as well as Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.

Earlier this season, St Juste was clocked running at a speed of 36.63 kph (22.76 mph) which is the fastest any player in Germany’s top flight has travelled all campaign.

A double swoop may be on the cards for the Hammers as The Telegraph reported yesterday that they were also keen on signing St Juste’s fellow Mainz defender Moussa Niakhate.

He would cost roughly £8million but a price for St Juste has not emerged with the Bundesliga side unlikely to want to sell both of their starting centre-halves in one window.

Catch me if you can

The Premier League is famously one of the most frantic and high-tempo leagues in all of Europe and it has caught even some of the continent’s best out at times.

You have to be someone with at least a little bit of pace to burn if you want to make it in England but St Juste has more than that.

His gob-smacking speed in recovery has earned many a point for Mainz since he joined them in 2019 and you can expect more of the same if he makes the switch to the London Stadium.

Kurt Zouma is already pretty good on the recovery tackle but even he would be in awe of the way St Juste eats up ground.

He isn’t the tallest of defenders at just six feet tall but what he lacks in height he makes up for in athleticism that can be so tough to get past for opposition attackers.

He and Niakhate could be a sensational double swoop if David Moyes could pull it off as he looks to reshape his squad for next season.
