West Ham want Hertha Berlin defender Niklas Stark in January
West Ham United want to sign Hertha BSC centre-back Niklas Stark in the January transfer window, according to German news outlet Sport1.
The Hammers could be without Angelo Ogbonna for the rest of the season after he damaged his anterior cruciate ligament against Liverpool, and they have identified the Germany international, 26, as a potential replacement.
West Ham have held talks with Stark’s representatives, and David Moyes wants to the two-cap Germany international to the London Stadium in the winter as he sees a lot of talent in him.

Good fit?
The Irons have Craig Dawson and Issa Diop as quality covers for the injured Italian, but they are not starters for a reason, and the manager could indeed be looking for someone to play alongside Kurt Zouma in defence.
Stark has just a few months left on his current deal, and the Bundesliga outfit could be forced to sell him in January as opposed to losing him for nothing next summer.
The German has been a regular for Hertha Berlin over the past six seasons, and he could be keen on a move to a new club and league.

West Ham have established themselves as a strong contender in all competitions this term, and they could be very attractive to targets in January.
With European football sealed for next year after they booked a place in the last 32 of the Europa League, Stark could be open to a move.
Moyes needs to bolster his defence heading into the second half of the campaign, and a bargain deal could be on the cards if all parties involved can agree to a move.
In other West Ham news, ExWHUemployee has claimed that Kretinsky’s arrival could see Hammers sign an extraordinary int’l striker.
