West Ham want Eddie Nketiah on a short-term loan

West Ham have shown interest in a short-term loan for Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah, according to 90min.

The Hammers want to strengthen the department before the January transfer window shuts on Monday, but they are not the only one keen on the England youth international, 21.

Crystal Palace also want Nketiah on loan for the rest of the campaign, but Newcastle United have opened talks with Arsenal over a permanent move.

No chance?

The youngster is out of contract at the end of the season and does not plan on signing an extension at the Emirates Stadium, with limited opportunities the reason for his wish to leave.

West Ham have perennially been linked with Nketiah, and with David Moyes crying out for a cover to provide Michail Antonio with stiff competition, a loan deal makes sense.

However, the fee from a temporary deal will be little compared to what Arsenal can get from Newcastle if they sell him, and that appears to be the most likely and most logical option for them.

Besides, the Gunners and the Hammers are in direct competition for the top-four spots, and that gives Mikel Arteta’s side a reason not to do business with them.

Nketiah would love to join a side where he can play a lot of football, and that may not be guaranteed at the London Stadium right now.

Nevertheless, Antonio could be getting some much-needed rest during some games in the second half of the campaign, and the chance to play in Europe would tempt Nketiah.

However, a move may have to wait until the summer from the look of things.
