West Ham want Clermont striker Mohamed Bayo
West Ham United are on the trail of Clermont striker Mohamed Bayo ahead of a potential transfer swoop, according to The Sun.
The France-born Guinea international, 23, will be playing in the African Cup of Nations next January, with a winter move for him likely to be off the cards.
The Hammers are likely to be plotting a move for next summer, and Bayo should be open to an exit as he has been unsettled by failed bids in the summer.
Bordeaux had a £7million bid knocked back, with Clermont holding out for £10million.
David Moyes admitted that he would have loved to sign a striker during the window [The Sun], and it seems West Ham are already lining up potential options.
One to watch?
The Frenchman helped Clermont earn promotion last season and has impressed so far in the French top-flight, scoring thrice and assisting twice in six games.
Bayo looks capable of guiding his side to safety, and West Ham will be watching him this term and during the AFCON in January.
With 26 goals and nine assists in 54 games across all competitions for Clermont to his name, the Guinean could be a decent addition to the Irons frontline, and he is very much affordable.
Michail Antonio has been brilliant for the Hammers so far in 2021-22, notching five goals and three assists in five Premier League games already.
He remains their first-choice without a doubt, but his injury record does not give Moyes a lot of confidence, and using makeshift options in his absence would not work every time.
West Ham need to get a quality striker capable of providing the Jamaican international with much-needed reliable cover and competition, and Bayo could be their man if he keeps impressing.
