West Ham v Freiburg: David Moyes makes ‘incredible’ Premier League and Bundesliga admission
West Ham boss David Moyes believes the atmosphere in Germany is “possibly” better than in the Premier League.
The Hammers are in Europa League action on Thursday (7 March) with an away trip to Freiburg, having faced the same opponents twice in the group stages.
Hammers supporters were banned from attending the away game on that occasion and Moyes is excited to experience the game with visiting fans in attendance.
Moyes said at a news conference, as per the official club website (6 March): “I have to say I find the atmosphere in Germany is incredible, possibly better than the Premier League, and I hope the West Ham fans enjoy it and get home safely.
“I think there’s been some travel disruption, so I hope they get here OK and are able to support the team.”
West Ham boss David Moyes hails German atmosphere
Clubs in England can learn a lot from the atmosphere in Germany. Teams, especially in the second tier, average way more in terms of attendances.
However, the quality of football is possibly not quite as good.
West Ham will be in for a tricky test against Freiburg. They are sat in ninth place in the Bundesliga table and are only seven points off the European places.
The Hammers have been in decent form themselves recently and have won their last two Premier League games on the spin against Brentford and Everton. Those results have eased a bit of pressure off manager David Moyes after he was questioned by some sections of the fan base.

The Scotsman, formerly of Everton, Manchester United and Real Sociedad, is a safe pair of hands for the London club and will have his sights set on another cup run here. He guided them to the Europa Conference League trophy last year after they beat Fiorentina in the final in Prague.
