West Ham United youngster Conor Coventry could leave this summer

West Ham youngster Connor Coventry is “likely” to leave the club this summer, according to a report on 21 June by Claret & Hugh.

The 22-year-old has been sent on loan to Lincoln City, Peterborough and most recently MK Dons by the Hammers but seemingly still isn’t ready to feature under David Moyes.

With him now also being tipped for a permanent move, a decision will be made by the east London outfit on the player’s future in the coming weeks.

The midfield is an area that the Irons are looking to strengthen ahead of the 2022/23 campaign with many supporters feeling that Coventry had done enough on his loan spells to be in with a chance.

However, a source told Claret & Hugh: “A decision needs to be made on his future as another loan spell can’t do the player a lot of good and with his contract expiring next summer the club will need to sell now to get any sort of fee.”

Shame.

This is really disappointing news because Coventry was tipped to be a West Ham star in the making as he rose through the youth ranks at lightning speed.

The fans have kept one eye on his journey for quite some time now with some expecting the midfielder to reach the levels of a Declan Rice.

That was always a little bit far-fetched but that doesn’t take away how far he has fallen from what was expected of him.

He did well out on loan but those who matter at the London Stadium have seemingly seen enough of him to know that he won’t be good enough to make an impact in Moyes’ squad.

It is a tough one for him to take having been at the club since youth level but that is football and he will snapped up in no time, there is no doubt about that.

The most important thing is that the Hammers have the right level players playing for them to give them the best chance of success.
