West Ham United yet to submit formal bid for Ben Brereton Diaz

West Ham are long-term admirers of Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz, but the Hammers are yet to lodge a formal bid for the striker, as reported by AS.

The Chilean version of the Spanish publication reported on 12 July that despite strong interest from a host of clubs, the Championship outfit is yet to receive any formal bid for their striker who scored 22 goals last season.

As of now, there has been ‘no concrete offer’ on the table. Blackburn have demanded a fee of around £12.6m, and several foreign clubs have backed off after hearing the asking price.

Change of plans?

The Guardian reported on 12 July that Diaz remains an option for the Hammers. The London outfit are “tracking” the Chilean international, but he doesn’t seem to be the top priority for the club.

The Hammers are desperate to land a striker this summer having failed to sign one in the past three transfer windows.

West Ham are heavily interested in signing Armando Broja from Chelsea, while the club are also keen on Sassuolo’s highly-rated striker Gianluca Scamacca.

Based on widespread reports, it seems that the Hammers are prepared to spend big on either of these two players.

Brereton-Diaz would have a cheaper alternative than both of them, but he doesn’t appear to rank high on David Moyes’s wish list at the moment.

Having said that, the Hammers could still move for him if they fail to land other targets. Moyes has worked wonders with Championship players, and he could be willing to take a gamble with the Blackburn striker as well.
