West Ham United will look to play Aaron Wan-Bissaka in new role if he signs

West Ham United could utilise Aaron Wan-Bissaka as a central defender if a deal can be completed before the deadline, according to the Daily Mail.

The 24-year-old is currently behind Diogo Dalot in the pecking order at Manchester United and the Hammers have tentatively enquired about the England Under-21 international.

The likelihood of a move almost solely depends on the Red Devils’ ability to sign Sergino Dest from FC Barcelona with less than 48 hours until the transfer window closes.

Wan-Bissaka, who has now committed himself to the Democratic Republic of Congo over England, has exclusively played as a right-back throughout his senior career at both Old Trafford and Crystal Palace previously.

The current injury crisis in defence at the London Stadium means Ben Johnson has had to play in the middle of the defence on more than one occasion this season which David Moyes would prefer not to have to do again.

Defensive master

The attacking talents of Wan-Bissaka have been highly criticised during his time at Manchester United and that has led to Erik Ten Hag choosing to opt for Dalot instead as his main man.

The 24-year-old probably wouldn’t get in ahead of Vladimir Coufal either but Moyes knows that there are few better players in a tackle anywhere in world football right now.

West Ham

In the right system and with the right players around him, Wan-Bissaka can become a monster to get past for opposition players and that kind of fear in the opposition is what West Ham are currently lacking.

It may also allow the Irons to experiment with a back three more often where the DR Congo player can almost combine his right-back knowledge with centre-half skillset in the perfect blend.

But that system did not work against Aston Villa at the weekend so much more training will have to be done to get everyone up to speed before it is brought out again in the Premier League.
