West Ham United weigh up last-gasp bid to sign Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car – David Ornstein

West Ham United are weighing up a last-gasp attempt to sign Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car, according to David Ornstein.

The Athletic journalist has reported that despite calls for a striker, David Moyes is looking into a deal for a defender.

It is reported that the Hammers would be more inclined to make a loan offer rather than a permanent move at this time.

Caleta-Car is said to have been linked to numerous Premier League clubs.

Newcastle and Liverpool have been mentioned as potential suitors for the Croatian international, who is destined to move this summer.

That is because the 25-year-old is out of contract at the end of this season with Marseille yet to agree fresh terms.

Despite the Irons wanting a loan move, the Ligue 1 club are more inclined to want a permanent sale and receive a fee.

Really?

The priority simply has to be in the final third.

Kurt Zouma is on the verge of his return, and with a two-week break in the Premier League, that should be inevitable.

The big problem now shifts to Michail Antonio and his dreadful lack of form, something that is starting to harm us in games.

Jarrod Bowen has carried the weight for some time but has struggled in the past couple of outings to push us to three points again.

Caleta-Car would be a smart signing with major doubts over Craig Dawson and Issa Diop, but he cannot be the priority.

A successful end to the window would be Caleta-Car and a new striker arriving, this opportunity cannot pass us by again.
