West Ham United want Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst

West Ham United are interested in signing £26million-rated Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst this summer, according to The Athletic.

The Hammers want to strengthen their striking department, with Michail Antonio their only senior option at the moment.

Wolfsburg are ready to sell Weghorst for £26million and are expecting more concrete offers this summer after Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United made preliminary advances a year ago [The Athletic].

West Ham could face stiff competition for his signature, but do hold an advantage over others as a result of European football.

Perfect option for Hammers’ striking woes

Wehghorst ended last term with 20 league goals and eight assists in 34 Bundesliga games, helping Wolfsburg finish fourth in the table.

Playing the larger chunk of the second-half of the campaign without a primary striker made all the difference in the end as we narrowly missed out on a top-four finish, and West Ham need to right that wrong this summer.

For £26million, the Dutch international is a bargain and we cannot afford to miss out on such a quality finisher.

The 6ft 6in hitman ended 2019-20 with 20 goals in 43 games, and his strength and style of play are perfect for manager David Moyes’ system.

Erstwhile Spurs boss Jose Mourinho was keen on him for so many reasons, and he looks tailor-made for the Premier League given his skillset.

The Hammers need such a striker if we are to impress in the Europa League and also improve on this season’s sixth-placed finish next term, and this is a type of deal the GSB board should be all over.

In other West Ham news, Hammers want to sign centre-forward with most PL goals for his country.
