West Ham United want to sign Torino ace Perr Schuurs, £34m will seal deal

West Ham United have expressed an interest in Torino defender Perr Schuurs, according to the Evening Standard.

The publication noted that the Dutch defender is also attracting interest from fellow Premier League club Crystal Palace.

But Torino’s €40million (£34.2million) valuation of the 23-year-old is putting many potential suitors off, with no official bids made for the player.

“West Ham and Crystal Palace have expressed an interest in Torino centre-back Perr Schuurs,” according to the Evening Standard.

“The 23-year-old Dutchman is being watched by a number of clubs – including Liverpool – but Standard Sport understands no official bid for him has been made at this stage.

“Torino’s £34.2million valuation of him is seen as an obstacle by a number of suitors, with plenty of interested parties but to date no concrete bids for the former Netherlands Under-21 international.”

Centre-back Schuurs definitely has a bright future ahead of him, but where he progresses next season remains to be seen.

The young defender only joined Torino from Dutch giants Ajax for £8million last summer, with the 23-year-old going on to make 33 appearances for the Italian side last season.

The centre-back already boasts three league titles to his name from his five years in the Ajax first team, while he was called up to the senior Netherlands squad for their UEFA Nations League matches against Poland and Italy in September 2020.

The player’s contract in Torino does not expire until 2026, and even includes an option for an additional year, so the Serie A side are definitely in the driving seat when it comes to any negotiations for Schuurs.

He could, however, be tempted with regular minutes in the Premier League next season, but it remains to be seen whether the Hammers or indeed Crystal Palace will be willing to fork out such a large sum to bring him to England.
