West Ham United want to sign Fiorentina striker Luka Jovic as Gianluca Scamacca replacement

West Ham United want to sign Fiorentina striker Luka Jovic in the summer transfer window, according to Calciomercato.

The Italian publication, referencing reports from the English press, reported on its website on Sunday (20 August) that both Jovic and AC Milan striker Divock Origi are being considered.

The duo are being monitored as the Hammers look to fill the gap left by Gianluca Scamacca, who has left for Atalanta, the publication added.

“According to what was reported by the English press, West Ham, having lost Scamacca in the direction of Atalanta, continues to study the market in search of a reinforcement for its attack and is aiming its sights at two redundancies from two Italian teams,” according to Calciomercato.

“These are Divock Origi of AC Milan and Luka Jovic of Fiorentina.”

Striker needed

West Ham are definitely in need of another striker, with manager David Moyes left with Michail Antonio, Danny Ings and Divin Mubama as his options in that area following Scamacca’s exit.

And even then, Antonio’s future at the club is very unclear, while 18-year-old Mubama is very inexperienced. Ings meanwhile has hardly had the greatest time of it at the London Stadium since his move from Aston Villa.

The Hammers are set for a tricky season given how they must try and compete in the Premier League and the Europa League, with a big squad needed from Moyes.

The East London club haven’t made any concrete moves in replacing Scamacca, but their recent summer transfer business may indicate that fans just need to be patient.

West Ham took plenty of time to replace star man Declan Rice following his exit to Arsenal at the beginning of the window, but fans were treated with a double boost in the form of James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez.
