West Ham United want to sign Austrian striker Junior Adamu

West Ham United have identified RB Salzburg striker Junior Adamu as a potential summer signing option, according to the Daily Mail.

The 20-year-old scored just three times in the Austrian Bundesliga for the eventual champions but he did find the net in the Champions League round of 16 against German giants Bayern Munich.

Southampton are the other Premier League side monitoring his situation at RB Salzburg while Ajax, Hertha Berlin and Red Bull Leipzig are also in the hunt to sign the Nigerian-born striker.

Adamu’s current valuation is £12million and that isn’t going to hold up any move from the Hammers should they wish to make him theirs.

He is capable of playing on the wing as well as the main man through the middle and has even been capped by Austria from Under-18s all the way to senior level.

Versatile

We all know that Moyes is casting his net far and wide to try and find a striker who can compete with Michail Antonio at the London Stadium while also taking the workload off him.

Maybe Austria is as far as he needs to go then because Adamu’s physical presence is enough to worry any defender and he will begin to score more often as he matures and irons out the creases in his game.

But we wouldn’t just be signing a one-trick pony with the 20-year-old because his ability to cause just as much danger from a wide area is a very attractive ability to have.

It’s hardly a shock to see a number of clubs circling Salzburg to try and sign him because everyone can see the potential he has.

If Moyes can work his transfer window magic, Adamu would be a sensational purchase for the Irons even though a lot of people won’t realise until long after the ink has dried.

In other West Ham news, Bobby Zamora has indicated that the club needs to spend big to prove to the key players that they are serious about success.
