West Ham United want to sign Archie Stevens from Rangers as transfer news emerges

West Ham have joined the race to sign Rangers teenager Archie Stevens this summer, according to FootballTransfers.

The online source reported [20 June] that the Hammers are set to rival Nottingham Forest, Wolves and Leeds United for the 18-year-old’s signature this summer.

Forest and Manchester United have been long-time admirers of the winger, with Stevens about to enter the final 12 months of his current contract at Auchenhowie, Rangers’ academy.

There should be plenty of excitement surrounding the young forward, having made his senior debut at Ibrox at 16 years of age after arriving from Wimbledon in 2020.

He featured in a 3-1 League Cup victory but has failed to break into the first team set-up since, or even make another senior appearance.

Stevens has, instead, been impressing for Rangers B, and also performing on the international stage with England youth sides, being a part of the young Three Lions’ World Cup squad last year.

With the kind of young talent emerging at the London Stadium – 20-year-old George Earthy, 19-year-old Kaelan Casey and 18-year-old Lewis Orford – a switch to London could be on the cards due to this.

While it is unknown what kind of players Julen Lopetegui will be looking to keep in his squad ahead of the 2024/25 season, the signing of Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras suggests that age is not a problem when it comes to Premier League football.

Of course, the draw of Manchester United could rule any other team out of the transfer race this summer, but the youngster is much more likely to gain valuable minutes on the pitch with the Hammers.

Considering the number of clubs keeping tabs, it could be a case of whichever club strikes first will claim his signature, so the Irons will need to act fast if their interest is serious.
