West Ham United want Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams amid Declan Rice transfer race

West Ham have now been named in the growing race to sign Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams, by the Daily Mail.

The USA captain is seen as a key part of the squad at Elland Road but interest is becoming increasingly widespread among Premier League clubs following the Whites’ relegation.

The Irons are expected to sell captain and star midfielder Declan Rice this summer, and are also willing to sell fellow starter Tomas Soucek.

So there is a need for reinforcements in central areas and Adams, 24, is now on the list to make a quick return to the top flight at the London Stadium.

If West Ham have strong designs on signing him though they will face stiff competition, with the Daily Mail naming Brighton, Aston Villa, Everton and Nottingham Forest as all being interested in the American.

The likelihood is that the Irons are going to need to sign at least two starting-quality central midfielders this summer after being relatively thin at the position, and if both Rice and Soucek are sold that could even rise to three.

Flynn Downes is one of a few recent arrivals who appear to have failed to earned the trust of David Moyes, although whether that is an issue with the player or the manager is open to debate.

But after winning the Europa Conference League the Scot looks secure so if he isn’t sold on the former Swansea man he is going to need to bring in alternatives that he is confident to rely on.

Adams might not be up to Rice’s level but few in world football are, and while Leeds ultimately went down the signing from RB Leipzig came out of the campaign with enough credit to have multiple sides after him.

He won’t be cheap but following relegation he is unlikely to carry the premium that some names are this summer, and would be a solid move if another top-tier option can be brought in alongside him.

Additionally, with West Ham thought to be interested in his international colleague Yunus Musah the pair might be interested in linking up.

A similar arrangement didn’t work out especially well at Elland Road with the third member of their international midfield Weston McKennie, although the injury that ended Adams’ season meant they didn’t actually play together for long.

In other West Ham news, Rice has been tipped to snub advances from Arsenal and Manchester City to remain at the London Stadium.
