West Ham United want late January move for Benfica forward Darwin Nunez – report

West Ham United are looking into a late January deal for Benfica attacker Darwin Nunez, according to Sky Sports (18:48).

The online source has reported on their website that the Irons are pushing for the Uruguayan international after a deal for Gabigol failed.

David Moyes is pushing for a deal that would likely take place on deadline-day with the clock quickly ticking away.

Nunez has been sensational in Portugal.

The South American has scored 20 goals in his 25 appearances this season, spearheading Benfica in all competitions.

90min journalist Toby Cudworth relayed the news on Twitter and shared that sources have “confirmed” a move is on the cards.

It would take a big-money offer to get this deal over the line, though, with limited time for Benfica to bring in a replacement.

West Ham

Money is there.

We have seen so many stories in recent days about huge offers going out from the London Stadium.

Michail Antonio is struggling heavily in recent weeks, and we can’t rely on him to be fit to start every last game in all competitions this season.

So, with Daniel Kretinsky and GSB giving these moves the green light, why has it taken so long for any movement?

Moyes and Rob Newman have left it late, possibly even too late with some clubs possibly not in a position to sanction exits.

Nunez would be a brilliant signing, but a move should have been launched at the start of the month, that way it would have been easier to complete.

Now, the price is likely higher, and last-gasp changes are possible with any outcome now on the table.

Fingers crossed, this ends in a huge announcement on deadline day.
