West Ham United: Darren Bent makes ‘nonsense’ Konstantinos Mavropanos claim after draw v Burnley
Darren Bent slammed Konstantinos Mavropanos after the centre-back put into his own net in the draw between West Ham and Burnley.
Mavropanos stuck out a leg to inadvertently divert Josh Cullen’s cross beyond Alphonse Areola in Sunday’s (10 March) 2-2 draw at London Stadium.
The Greece international was under little pressure, but his body shape meant he was unable to make the desired connection with the ball.
Reacting to the goal on talkSPORT [11 March, 4:40pm], former Tottenham striker Bent said: “Have you seen Mavropanos’s defending?
“All that ‘unnatural’ nonsense. His arms are behind his back.”
Co-host Andy Goldstein added: “It’s ridiculous.”
West Ham battle back against Burnley at London Stadium
Mavropanos had a shocker with his attempt to keep out the low cross. It should have been a simple clearance, rather than a comical own goal.
The Greek defender has not only failed to prevent opposition teams scoring goals, he has also given them free goals out of nothing.
If West Ham fans were not already frustrated enough with their side a goal down, this own goal only ramped things up a notch or two.

Full credit to the players because they battled back well in the second half and maybe could have won the game on another day.
Ultimately, though, a point against a side that started the day bottom is not good enough on home soil.
More questions will now be asked of Mavropanos after another game without a clean sheet as we enter a season-defining return leg with Freiburg.
