West Ham United urged to sack Julen Lopetegui by celebrity supporter

Paul Hawksbee has been left amazed after Oli Fox urged West Ham United to sack Julen Lopetegui live on air.

The Hammers boss has come under increased pressure from supporters and pundits alike after a poor start to the Premier League season which has seen the Irons win just one of their opening six matches.

While the Irons are understood to be standing by their manager [Fabrizio Romano, 29 September], celebrity supporter and Good Neighbours front-man Fox has called for a change in the London Stadium dugout.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Tuesday (1 October, 14:44) he said: “I was excited just for a new start, I loved [David] Moyes to bits but I thought he found his ceiling with us.

“I thought maybe Lopetegui just didn’t have it right with Wolves and needed a better team and I thought that’s what he was walking into, but I think watching the first few games, something has happened in the changing room.

“I don’t know what it is, but our good players just aren’t playing anymore. I would like to see him go, to be honest.”

Hawksbee replied: “Wow. Already?”

Will West Ham sack Julen Lopetegui amid London Stadium developments?

Cox’s comments sum up the general feeling around Hammers supporters at this moment in time. There is a belief that the Irons may have appointed the wrong man to succeed Moyes in the West Ham dugout.

But it is naive to assume that yet another change of manager would solve all of West Ham’s problems, particularly after a summer which saw so much change to the playing staff at the London Stadium.

It is going to take time for this new-look group of players to gel together. Lopetegui may not have managed to get a tune out of them consistently, but the win over Crystal Palace showed that there are foundations there to build from.

Hopefully, everything will click sooner rather than later to ease the pressure on the former Real Madrid boss.

If the Irons can pick up a win on either side of the international break, it will massively ease the frustration around the fanbase currently.
