West Ham United update emerges as offer made for Manchester United defender Harry Maguire

West Ham have made an opening loan offer to secure the services of Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire, according to the Guardian.

The English newspaper carried an article on its website [17 July] that claimed the Old Trafford outfit have rejected an opening approach by the Hammers.

David Moyes’ men are exploring a loan move with an option to buy as they feel the demands for the England international are too high.

Permanent deal on the cards?

It seems like Man United will only let him leave on a permanent basis this summer and are quoting a high price for him.

They made him the most expensive defensive signing of all time and handed him the captain’s armband only to strip it off him a few years later.

He’ll certainly be a good addition for the Hammers but they need to be wary about how much they’re willing to pay for him.

His confidence has taken a hit and there are no guarantees that he’ll be the same player he was at Leicester should he move to the London Stadium.

David Moyes undoubtedly will treat him better and he won’t have 80,000 fans on his back each time he’s called into action.

It remains to be seen if West Ham return with a transfer offer or if they can try and reach a compromise with the Manchester outfit.

In other West Ham news, a super-rich club has launched an enquiry into a star player who could follow Declan Rice out of the door as his agent may engineer a transfer.
