West Ham United trigger Lukasz Fabianski contract extension after clean sheet v Wolves
West Ham have triggered a one-year extension clause in Lukas Fabianski’s contract which will see him remain in East London until the end of the 2024/25 season, according to The Standard.
The newspaper reported via their website [18 December] that the Hammers have been impressed with the 39-year-old’s fitness levels and performances when called upon.
Fabianski has become a key player of late, starting each of West Ham’s last three Premier League games after Alphonse Areola suffered an injury, proving he can still perform at the top level after keeping a clean sheet against Wolves.

A reliable figure
As he has shown with a clean sheet against Wolves and some top performances in the Europa League and League Cup, the Polish shot-stopper still represents a reliable figure and a strong option to be called upon when West Ham need him.
It has become clear that the coaching staff at Rush Green still feel Fabianski has plenty to offer, and with the option there to extend his current deal without negotiating new terms over his contract, it became a no-brainer for the Hammers to make it happen.
The extension also means there is no need for the Hammers to go out and spend money on a new backup goalkeeper to play second-fiddle to Areola, and that money can instead be invested elsewhere in the squad.

While this differs from the reasons Pablo Fornals was handed a contract extension, it is further proof of the good work done by those negotiating the deals and can ease any possible burden West Ham may have faced as a result of him leaving for free.
