West Ham United transfers will go on until deadline day – David Moyes

West Ham United manager David Moyes has said that the club’s transfer business will keep on going until the 1 September deadline.

The Hammers have already made four new signings this summer with Nayef Aguerd, Alphonse Areola, Flynn Downes and Gianluca Scamacca the quartet to have put pen to paper at the London Stadium.

Despite that, there are still holes to fill for Moyes who has predicted that West Ham will be active in the market all the way to deadline day as they search for top talent.

“I am sure we will be working hard in the transfer window right through to the final day,” the boss said to the Evening Standard. “I still want quality rather than just numbers, though. It’s not hard to sign players but more difficult to attract real quality.”

“We’re not quite there yet but we’re doing our best to hang on to those teams. I feel I still have lots to do and as a manager going into every season I think I have something to prove because it can turn very quickly.”

Long haul

Deadline day business has become a trend for West Ham since David Moyes arrived at the club, January exempt, of course, and it doesn’t have to be the bad thing it is sometimes seen as.

Occasionally, you can get a bargain on the final day as teams try to offload players that no longer want to stay but it does raise the heart rate considerably the longer deals go on.

Equally, you don’t want to completely rule yourself out of any business because a sudden change at another club could present a super opportunity to nab a surprise upgrade when you weren’t looking for one.

Ultimately, it doesn’t really matter whether the deal is done on the first or the last day of a transfer window as long as the player is registered in time to play and the Irons won’t allow any new signings if they can’t then go and play for the first six months of their tenure at the club.
