West Ham United transfer strategy outlined by David Moyes
West Ham United manager David Moyes has expressed a desire to build a younger squad at the London Stadium, according to journalist Paul Brown.
The Hammers are enjoying a superb season so far and currently sit third in the Premier League table, but Moyes is seemingly not resting on his laurels.
The Scot appears to be looking to the future in East London, outlining his transfer strategy for the next few windows.
Speaking to Give Me Sport, Brown said: “Moyes has said over and over again in public and in private to us that he’s trying to build a younger, hungrier side that can grow.”
Finding the balance
According to Transfermarkt, West Ham have the second oldest squad in the Premier League this season at 28.9 years old; only Burnley are older.
It is at the back where the Hammers are particularly old, with Lukas Fabianski (36), Angelo Ogbonna (33), Craig Dawson (31) and Aaron Cresswell (31) all on the wrong side of 30.
Even top scorer Michail Antonio turns 32 in just over four months, although he will hope for a Jamie Vardy-esque career path that sees him still finding the back of the net well into the twilight years of his time on the pitch.
The squad’s experience has undoubtedly been crucial to the club’s success this season, so for Moyes it will be about finding the right balance in the squad.
West Ham brought in teenage talents such as Pierre Ekwah from Chelsea and Armstrong Oko-Flex from Celtic in the summer, and they will hope that the pair will be able to break into the first team in the next few years.
