West Ham United transfer news: Update emerges on Chelsea target Archie Brown

West Ham, Chelsea, Juventus and AC Milan, among other clubs, are weighing up a move for Gent left-back Archie Brown in the summer.

According to the Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg (1 March), the 21-year-old could return to England three years after leaving Derby County.

It’s understood that he will be costing £15million and there is likely to be stiff competition to sign the English defender.

West Ham may find the transfer challenging

The Hammers are highly unlikely to secure Brown’s services if the aforementioned clubs actually go on to make a serious move for him and they may have to focus on other targets and it remains to be seen if they rekindle their interest in David Raum.

This heightened competition could lead to a bidding war, driving up the transfer fee beyond what West Ham might be willing to pay.

Additionally, Brown’s value is estimated at around £15million, which could be a significant investment for the Hammers, especially if they have budget constraints or other transfer priorities.

Moreover, their need for a left-back might not align perfectly with Brown’s potential role in their squads, considering their existing options and tactical preferences.

Furthermore, Gent might be reluctant to sell Brown, given his impressive performances and potential, unless they receive a substantial offer that meets their valuation.

Given how important a role it is, the club needs to be thorough with their recruitment and there will be some more names thrown into the mix before the summer.
