West Ham United transfer news: Thilo Kehrer exit deal set to be finalised with six-figure fee attached – Fabrizio Romano
West Ham and Monaco are currently finalising a deal which will see Thilo Kehrer leave the club on an initial loan move, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer specialise reported via Twitter on 2 January that the German is due to move to the Ligue 1 side for a €500,000 loan fee [£434,000] and could become permanent if specific targets are reached to trigger a mandatory buy option.
The 27-year-old has fallen down the pecking order under David Moyes and his time at the club looks to be coming to an end, with a few details still to be sorted to seal the deal.
Romano wrote: “AS Monaco and West Ham are finalising deal for Thilo Kehrer. It will be loan deal with mandatory buy options clause in case of specific targets.
“Understand AS Monaco will pay €500k loan fee. There are still details to clarify in order to get the deal done & sealed soon.”
Business begins
Kehrer’s standing at West Ham has reduced significantly already as his use in the Premier League has dropped to just four appearances this season after 27 last term.
It looked like an imminent exit is as good as done, and it would be little surprise if he didn’t return from France in the summer.
If his West Ham career is set to end at this stage it will be after 50 appearances in all competitions in a year and a half in East London.
He arrived during a defensive injury crisis at the start of last term and his versatility has been useful to Moyes, but it has also potentially worked against him as he has never cemented his place at any one position.
With interest from the continent available and so few opportunities with the Hammers outside of cup competitions it is little surprise that he would be interested in seeking improved game time elsewhere.
Moyes and Tim Steidten will likely need a replacement in the coming weeks to avoid being left shorthanded, in what may be an eventful January window.
