West Ham United transfer news: Gianluca Scamacca set to undergo medical in Rome today

West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca is set to arrive in Rome today to undergo medical tests ahead of his proposed move to Atalanta, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

According to the Sky Sports Italy journalist, taking to his personal Twitter account (5 August), Scamacca is currently on a flight to Rome to complete medical tests in order to seal his £26m move to the Bergamo outfit.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Twitter (5 August) that documents are being prepared as West Ham prepare to seal another one of their star exits this summer and that there’s a 10 per cent sell-on clause included in the deal as well.

Di Marzio wrote: “Gianluca Scamacca arriving in Italy.

“The former Sassuolo forward will arrive in Rome today, where he will undergo medical tests for Atalanta.”

Impressive deal

Atalanta have got this deal over the line fairly impressively and it’s certainly a surprise given how long this Scamacca saga has dragged on with the likes of Inter Milan, Roma and AC Milan all in the hunt for his signature.

Following the sale of Rasmus Hojlund to Manchester United, the Bergamo outfit certainly had cash in the bank to get this deal done and the fact that they had steered clear of Inter to complete Scamacca’s signing is a serious statement.

West Ham

While letting go of a £35m striker would prove yet another sour blow for the West Ham United faithful, the Hammers should be credited for getting a fee of around £26m, following on from the £105 Declan Rice sale.

And a potential 10 per cent sell-on clause which could be very useful should the Italian seal an even bigger move in the near future.

Scamacca appeared to tick all the boxes, given his classy forward qualities and stark potential to become one of the best strikers on the continent but David Moyes never saw the striker he thought he was signing a season ago.

Just how the Hammers would replace him, and potentially Antonio would be intriguing indeed. Big-money strikers just never seem to work out in East London, it’s become a worrying curse.

In other West Ham news, the club have now opened advanced talks with a Premier League player who appears to be open on leaving his side this summer.
