West Ham United transfer news: Fabrizio Romano issues update on Ajax winger Steven Bergwijn
Former Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn is keen on a Premier League return amid links to West Ham in the January transfer window, per Fabrizio Romano.
The Sky Sports journalist claims that any transfer for the Netherlands international will depend on the club’s transfer budget as they need to seal player sales before making any new signings.
Despite his struggles in the Premier League when he was at Tottenham, the 26-year-old is understood to be among the main names on the Hammers’ wishlist this month.

Romano told Opta Analyst, “The Dutchman is one of the main names on West Ham’s list for the January window. The deal depends on outgoings, as West Ham need to sell players before bringing in new ones. Bergwijn is keen on the move, so it will depend on the budget for West Ham.
“In my opinion he can be a good addition for [David] Moyes’ idea of football. He’s a fast player who really wants to return to Premier League football as soon as possible. But he will need to perform on a more consistent basis if he wants to make an impact.”
Bergwijn’s potential move to West Ham in January could prove to be a strategic and timely signing for the club and that is why they must dive into the January transfer market.
With Jarrod Bowen forced to play as a striker due to Michail Antonio’s injury and Mohammed Kudus set to miss several games during AFCON, their attacking options have been stretched thin.
Additionally, Said Benrahma’s struggles have led to Lucas Paqueta playing out of position on the left wing.

Bergwijn’s recent performance resurgence at Ajax, with an impressive contribution of 33 goals in 65 competitive appearances, showcases his regained form and goal-scoring prowess.
Despite a slightly lower conversion rate in the Eredivisie compared to his time at Spurs, his Premier League experience could be crucial for West Ham.
The Netherlands international’s ability to play in various attacking positions provides much-needed flexibility, addressing the team’s current depth issues.
If given playing time, Bergwijn could potentially bolster David Moyes’ side, adding a dynamic and proven attacking threat during a crucial period of the season.
