West Ham United transfer news: Danny Ings ‘determined’ update amid Gianluca Scamacca developments

Danny Ings will be “determined” to stay at West Ham this summer amid movement in the transfer market at his position, says Dean Jones.

The Englishman only arrived at the London Stadium in the January window for a fee of up to £15million [Sky Sports, 15 February] after year and a half at Aston Villa, but Frank McAvennie exclusively told West Ham Zone he possibly wasn’t a David Moyes signing.

That has raised the possibility that after just three goals in all competitions, having largely been used off the bench by the manager, the 30-year-old could move on this summer now Moyes is expected to remain, but Jones feels that amid uncertainty around £35.5million Gianluca Scamacca there is a likelihood that Ings stays too.

The former Eurosport journalist told GIVEMESPORT: “I think, firstly, it’s possible Ings does still stay with West Ham. I mean, he’s only just joined them a few months back and West Ham want options in attack for next season. They were short of goals. That’s what cost them a lot at the time last season.

“They’re obviously weighing up offer at the moment for Scamacca and they will look to replace him, but I still think Ings will be determined to try and make a go of things there at West Ham.”

Hasty

Ing’s first half-season at the London Stadium wasn’t exactly a huge success but until very late on the same could be said of most of the squad.

Moyes himself was on the brink of losing his job until the whole club was lifted by the Europa Conference League triumph.

But unless there is a lucrative offer put on the table to sign the former Southampton and Liverpool forward it makes sense to keep him around when there are already questions surrounding Scamacca and Michail Antonio, since it would be a big job to potentially have to replace all three this summer.

The big-money Italian’s future is of greatest focus after the impending departure of captain Declan Rice, but despite endless reports linking him to a return to Italy there now appears to be the possibility that he stays without a major bid being tabled.

Antonio had been linked to an exit in January before Moyes reverted to what had been successful previously and made the Jamaica international a key man again late in the campaign [The Athletic, 12 May].

But he is 33 and could push to leave [Guardian, 2 June], so with at least one of the top two forwards needing a replacement it would probably be sensible to keep Ings in house.

Perhaps if multiple new options are picked up in good time he could be moved on later in the summer but for now his future seems to be in less question than either of his two fellow strikers.

In other West Ham news, there are worries that yet another big-money Irons star could now be angling for a move this summer.
