West Ham United transfer news as winner named in race to sign PSG midfielder Leandro Paredes
West Ham and Roma were in the hunt to sign Paris St. Germain midfielder Leandro Paredes this summer, according to Abdellah Boulma.
The FIFA and RTL Foot journalist reported on Monday (14 August) that an agreement was close to completion with the Italian side.
This means that the Hammers have lost out on the services of the Argentina international, 29.
Via Twitter, Boulma wrote, “Coveted by several clubs including West Ham, L. Paredes whose priority is to evolve in Italy discusses with Roma. The Argentina international also has an offer from Galatasaray.”
“Agreement almost completed for the transfer of Paredes 🇦🇷 to AS Roma. Amount: ~ 5 M euros. 2-year contract (+ 1 year optional).”
Not needed
Paredes may have been a quality option four seasons ago, but he no longer is the same player and this is a bullet dodged by the Hammers.
With James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez coming through the door and Mohammed Kudus likely to follow them in if Lucas Paqueta leaves, they seem to be well stacked in that department.
In case they sign another midfielder, it’ll be to add to the depth and that’s unlikely given the urgent need to rope in reinforcements elsewhere.

It remains to be seen who they sign to lead the line as there are a number of options at their disposal but time is running out.
There will be other sides still looking to sign strikers so the Hammers need to act quickly.
They also need to make progress with their quest to rope in Manchester United defender Harry Maguire so it’s going to be an eventful couple of weeks at the club.
In other West Ham news, the club have now opened advanced talks with a Premier League player who appears to be open on leaving his side this summer.
