West Ham United transfer news as twist emerges amid links to Manchester United striker Anthony Martial

West Ham have been linked with a move for Manchester United striker Anthony Martial this summer along with clubs in Saudi Arabia, according to Claret and Hugh.

The reliable Hammers news outlet reported on Wednesday (16 August) that David Moyes’ side are not going to be signing the France international this summer due to his high wages of £250k/week.

The 27-year-old could be moving to a club in Saudi instead as clubs there are keen on securing his services.

Not a good option

When Martial arrived at Old Trafford from Monaco in 2015 and scored on his debut against Liverpool, many believed that he would be the next big thing in the Premier League.

Despite his talent and ability to play out wide and down the middle, the Frenchman never lived up to the expectations in the league.

He’s struggled with form and consistency issues and for those wages, he will be the highest earner at the London Stadium.

If they are to break their structure, it has to be for a proven world class player who’ll instantly make them better and win them 10-15 points a season.

Martial is certainly not that and he’ll probably do well in Saudi as the league is nowhere as competitive as the English top flight.

There are better strikers out there for the Hammers to buy and hopefully, they make a move for one sooner rather than later.

In other West Ham news, the club have now opened advanced talks with a Premier League player who appears to be open on leaving his side this summer.
