West Ham United transfer news as Thilo Kehrer wanted in ‘sensational’ double deal

Eintracht Frankfurt are targeting West Ham United defender Thilo Kehrer as part of a “sensational” double Premier League deal, according to Team Talk.

The outlet reported on its website on Wednesday (13 December) that the Bundesliga side are plotting a move for the German defender alongside Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek when the January transfer window opens.

West Ham are keen to offload a few players in January to begin reconstructing David Moyes’ squad, with Kehrer expected to be one of those players allowed to depart the London Stadium.

It is understood that Frankfurt have already used intermediaries to discuss a potential move this January, with the initial signs being positive that the German side will be able to complete a deal.

Move him on

Whatever your opinion on Kehrer is, it is clear that Moyes isn’t particularly convinced by the German defender given his lack of involvement in the first team this season and therefore it would be best for all parties if the Hammers moved him on in January.

The 27-year-old’s appearances have predominantly been limited to Europa League matches and he is yet to start a single game in the Premier League this season, only featuring in 21 minutes of league action in the opening months of the campaign.

West Ham have reasonable defensive depth within their side and they do not need to keep the German defender at the London Stadium, especially if they are able to raise some much-needed funds through his sale in the January window.

Moyes’ side lacks a consistent goalscoring number nine and should the Irons raise a reasonable fee for Kehrer’s services, it may go a decent way to funding a move for a new striker.

As long as Frankfurt match the price that the Irons want for the 27-year-old when the transfer window opens, there should be no reason that Moyes and those above him at the London Stadium stand in his way.
