West Ham United transfer news as talks held with ‘those close’ to Monaco ace Youssouf Fofana
West Ham have “discussed” a move for Monaco ace Youssouf Fofana with “those close” to the midfielder, according to Claret and Hugh.
The publication reported on its website on Thursday (3 August) that the 24-year-old is “very highly regarded” by many of the top clubs in Europe.
The France international scored as French club Monaco drew 1-1 with Arsenal in a pre-season clash on Wednesday (2 August).

“The Monaco number 19 is a defensive midfielder and clearly very highly regarded by several of Europe’s top clubs but at this stage the Hammers are yet to move although they have discussed his position with those close to him,” according to Claret and Hugh.

Transfer battle
Fofana is clearly a top talent, but his rising stock undoubtedly means that West Ham will face a huge battle for his services this summer.
He made 47 appearances in all competitions last season for the Ligue 1 side, chipping in with two goals and two assists.
The East London club’s need for a new midfielder is clear following the exit of Declan Rice earlier in the window, and they are now rapidly running out of time to find a replacement.
The Hammers have a final pre-season match against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday (5 August) before kicking off their new Premier League campaign against Bournemouth exactly a week later.
It seems that there are issues behind the scenes between West Ham manager David Moyes and new technical director Tim Steidten, but such issues really need to be put to one side for now and then perhaps dealt with in time for the January transfer window.
In other West Ham news, a journalist has mooted an exit for one star who isn’t “entirely enamoured” with London Stadium life.
