West Ham United transfer news as new ‘short-term solution’ mooted amid latest injury crisis

West Ham United could be forced to look towards the loan market for short-term solutions during the January transfer window, according to The Guardian.

The newspaper reported on its website on Monday (8 January) that David Moyes is keen to bolster the overall standard of his squad during the January window, however, the current budget at the London Stadium has made it difficult.

Any potential incomings this month will likely be dependent on players heading in the opposite direction and therefore, the Hammers may have to enter the loan market to find immediate solutions.

This need for greater quality has become more apparent after the Irons’ lack of depth, particularly in attack, was exposed following injuries to Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and Michail Antonio all while Mohammed Kudus is away at the African Cup of Nations.

Loan deals likely

West Ham don’t want to risk their financial position by signing players that they can’t afford in the January window and while that is a sensible approach, it doesn’t help the Irons begin to put the ball in the back of the net on a consistent basis.

A new striker has been on most supporters’ shopping lists for a couple of transfer windows now and there was hope that such a deal may finally be completed this January, but so far, there has been no sign of the Hammers adding to their forward options.

Potentially, a six-month loan deal would solve all of Moyes’ problems at the London Stadium, allowing West Ham to finally have a forward who can be more reliable than Danny Ings or Divin Mubama without having to break the bank.

Injuries to Paqueta and Bowen have ensured that reinforcements are needed sooner rather than later and Moyes may just have to gamble in the loan market to get the Hammers to the end of the season. Who knows, they may strike gold.
