West Ham United transfer news as Nayef Aguerd rejected numerous offers to quit, wants to repay David Moyes faith

West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd received several offers to quit the London Stadium this summer but informed his agents of his desire to stay, according to Roshane Thomas.

According to The Athletic journalist, writing for the news article (11 September), Aguerd received approaches from a club in the Saudi Pro League and two unnamed European suitors but informed his agents of his desire to remain on both occasions.

Aguerd, who has made 33 appearances for West Ham since joining from Rennes in June 2022, still has four years to run on his London Stadium contract and had been the subject of a late audacious summer bid from Saudi outfit Al-Ittihad [Goal, 4 September

However, according to Thomas, Aguerd “appreciates the patience shown by Moyes and the physio team when he was sidelined for four months with an ankle injury” and “wants to repay that faith by excelling over a full season with West Ham”

So crucial for Moyes

Given the player is under contract at London Stadium until 2027, West Ham very much holds all the cards as far as any transfer is concerned, with Premier League clubs Liverpool and Manchester City now reportedly monitoring the Moroccan (The Sun, 10 September).

The Moroccan international has enjoyed a stunning first year in East London and has emerged as a leading player in the squad already in the new campaign, a commodity the club simply cannot afford to lose with Moyes planning a full-scale assault both domestically and on the European front this season.

West Ham United may have brought in Konstantinos Mavropanos this summer but the Greek defender still needs time and room to acclimatise to new surroundings, so it would have sent out the wrong message to fans if the club were to accept any bids for Aguerd even if it was “extraordinary”.

The days of the Hammers succumbing to tempting offers for their star players are now certainly over following their ambitious summer business.

And Aguerd’s stance on his West Ham United future certainly comes as some very pleasing news to the club faithful as he has regularly shown already this season that he’ll be pivotal to whatever success the East Londoners taste again.

In other West Ham news, the club could be guilty of wasting millions after a new contract development emerges at the London Stadium.
